Messinia Pro Am 2019 in Costa Navarino – golf among olive trees

Golf is an amazing game, it is fascinating and captivating from the first steps on the green field, from the first kick on the ball.

Why is golf so good that it has won millions of fans around the world? There’s a long history behind it…

The picturesque golf courses of Greece were visited by golfers from 20 countries. Victory went to the team led by Italian professional of the European Tour Alessandro Tadini, the star of the tournament was Hollywood actor Bill Murray.

Messinia Pro Am 2019 took place on two fields of the Greek resort Costa Navarino – Dunes Course and Bay Course, which are located near The Westin Resort, made in the classic Mediterranean style.

Both golf courses are located in the hills, among olive trees, which gives a special flavor to the golf game in Greece.

Playing here is possible from February and the Messinia Pro Am is, in a way, the “opening tournament of the season”.

One of the goals of the tournament is to draw attention to the region from golfers from different European countries, including Russia.

Delicious food, reasonable prices, high level of service and very friendly staff distinguish Costa Navarino among other popular destinations of our golf tourists.

(Bill Murray comes out)

For the first time, a Hollywood actor and cult figure in the world of golf, Bill Murray, who had participated in the Pebble Beach Pro Am just a week before, came to the Greek golf courses.

The owner of a beautiful swing and subtle sense of humor was in the company of friends and emphasized his unofficial visit, spending 19 holes and evening activities in the company of other golfers.

The first round of the tournament was held at the Dunes Course (architect Bernhard Langer with European Golf Design), which is a two-minute walk from The Westin Resort.

Different altitudes, fast greenes, cozy fairways are all within easy reach and leave a very pleasant impression of the course.

We recommend that you calculate your time so that sunrise or sunset can be found here. If the day is clear, you will see a picture from the myths of Ancient Greece, and you are sure to make a couple of frames for memory.

A nice addition to the Dunes Course is the meat restaurant, located in the club house, which offers a great view of several holes.

Bay Course

The second round of the Messinia Pro Am hosted participants on the Bay Course (architect Robert Trento Jones Jr.), which is considered more “challenging” than the Dunes Course.

Dunes Course

The Bay Course is situated on the slopes of the mountains by the bay, but the spectacular views should not distract you from the challenging course, after which there is an emotion comparable to spending a day on the “red” and “black” tracks somewhere in Chamonix.

The Bay Course has very interesting holes with cliffs, slopes and rises. Sometimes you have to play very carefully so as not to lose the ball in the bay, but it only adds excitement to what is happening.

A pleasant surprise was waiting in the club house – the honorable list of six names that made the hole in one, was the name of Sophia Vidovina!

As Bill Murray confessed to us, the Bay Course left a special impression on him, noting the variety of holes and beautiful views of the bay and the entrance to the sea.

As Bill Murray confessed

Costa Navarino Resort is actively developing, positioning itself as a place for active recreation and sports activities, for example, in April the famous Ironman Triathlon will be held here.

The resort is currently building an ambitious golf project Navarino Hills (architect José María Olazábal), which is being built on 500 hectares in the mountains overlooking the bay. By its opening in 2021, the course promises to be very modern, with a clubhouse built into the hill which combines ancient Greek design with cosmic motifs.

Investors are reading the plans for another golf destination in the southeastern Mediterranean Sea and have every chance of doing so.

A trip to Costa Navarino can be interesting for golfers who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city, have a delicious meal, sleep well in the incredibly fresh coastal air or have a jog at dawn among the olive trees and of course play golf on the beautiful and varied courses of the region.
